The club organises Breakfast with the Cars on the first Monday of every month, except when there is a cruise ship visiting and the green is occupied by stalls. The meeting is open to anyone and the club sponsor, Repco, provide many car prizes for those who attend. We all go over to Charlottes for a buffet breakfast, with a free coffee, and have a social meal with a fine view of the sea.

We had a great day ay Tauranga Bay where we were able to host the Capri Car Club who were doing a 50th anniversary run from Cape Reinga to Bluff. There were about thirty Capris and they made a great site as they arrived at the car park. John Blount made a good speech recalling the three Capri's that he had owned and the visitors appreciated the stop and the welcome. When the Capris had left we had lunch and a competition for the best cars of the rally. Two from the pre 1972 period and one from the modern era. The weather was perfect and we all had a fine day at the Bay.
We held the AGM on the 18th November 2018 at Lynette Lyndsey's home with a barbecue in the lovely garden. It was very relaxed and the existing committee was re-elected as there were no other applications. The accounts show a small increase on the year, membership has reached one hundred and there was a long discussion about possible events for the coming year. We normally have two events a month with a run somewhere and also breakfast with the cars which is managed by Brian and Joan Hepworth. We might try a non-competitive rally but twenty cars driving round the country in a group is a hazard on its own, and we might do some mid week trips to an industrial company. A very pleasant day in the sunshine.
After overnight rain we had a great run to the old logging community of Kohukohu on the Northern shore of the Hokianga. The trip took us through beautiful scenery and winding roads. There were thirteen cars and we had a great roast pork lunch for $15 a head at the Kohukohu Hotel. Very staff who made us very welcome. Some of the cars returned by way of the Rawene Ferry and a coffee at the Boat shed. |
